And it was
Oil on linen 2008

Michelle's
work is represented in both private and public collections in Australia and USA. Her award winning work focuses on humanity, featuring faces, hands, or bodies, with rich colour and a steady gaze from the canvas being fairly consistent motifs.

Her Life Lines series, explores relationships, expectations - the threads of life.

The Paper Dolls series explores the relationship we have with our expectations of life and the future - sometimes from the point of view of an adult looking back on childhood dreams of what life would be like - sometimes from an adults view of what a child should expect for themselves, and other times they can be an exploration of our expectations of ourselves and others as adults.

The 'geisha' girls challenge the viewer to guess what's going on in the mind of the figure - hopefully taking them out of their space and into the painting for a little while - a mini-holiday in some sense to create calm or mischief.

Her Anthropomorphism series focuses on the way people can be animalistic in their behaviour. Anthropomorphism is actually the way we embue the inanimate with personality or feelings, or attribute human feelings and personality to animals. It’s ‘making things human’. These works consider the way we slide sometimes into instinctive, and sometimes not very attractive behaviour.

In creating art, Michelle is mindful that an original work brings its own personality to the environment.  She feels that a work should breathe and occupy a space without overpowering it – revealing itself to the viewer gently but surely. Her works are often layered with unusual colours in ways that are both playful yet investigative – allowing her pieces to add a welcome and stimulating dimension to any space.

Michelle is inspired by artists Arthur Boyd, Charles Blackman, Sidney Nolan, Edvard Munch, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
